Methodology

Link jobs to AI performance
We connect O*NET job tasks to HELM AI benchmark results by labeling both with the same requirements (reading comprehension, math reasoning, spatial processing, etc.). This lets us measure how AI performs on the actual skills each task requires.

Score automation exposure
Beyond AI capability, each task also gets scored on what makes it easy to automate (digitizable, procedural) versus resistant (requires empathy, improvisation, physical presence, complex judgment).

Calculate task-level risk
We combine AI capability scores with automation barriers to estimate which tasks AI can realistically handle—and which remain distinctly human. We show our work so you can decide for yourself.
